anyone having this problem? Whether I use winamp or wmp it literally takes 15 secs from when i double click the file to when the file starts playing out of the speakers. Thats insane. I even tried smaller mp3 files but no difference.

Can't say I have had that problem. When I play an mp3 file with wmp, it opens almost instantly.

Is your Hard Drive healthy? Try defraging ur drive. Not sure if that will help tho.
    Is your pc fast otherwise?

No. Winamp works just fine here running Vista Ultimate x86 on my Averatec... That's very odd...

I'd try it with WMP and other media players to see if you can isolate the problem. Maybe its just an issue of reinstalling winamp?

No problems here on Ultimate. WMP opens immediately when I double-click an audio file.

Do you have any virus scanners set to scan EVERY file on open? That happened to my aunt's computer, it'd sit forever scanning every Word file when it opened. Check your virus scanner's settings.

I hate to say it, but it appears that your processor may be too slow. I'm not saying that it's definitely the problem, but I was just reading over this article, and a certain part made me think of your post.

Again, not saying it's definitely the problem, but combining Vista with Intel's lowest Core Duo (in addition to poor drivers) may be your problem. It's sad to think that a Core Duo isn't enough to give good performance anymore...

Wow. So, they're saying that all these performance issues could be mitigated if they just didn't insist on DRM? And people say they aren't being affected by Vista's DRM yet...

Read the full article. It's long, but there's some insane stuff in there I didn't know. All users are getting the shaft from Microsoft's content-protection policy, even those that never run Windows.

Which is why I hate Vista with a passion.

DRM. Thanks Microsoft. Thanks for making a lot of people upset. Thank you

for wasting my money on Vista.

Just wait my friends: DRM will taken care of by our fellow hackers.

And Vista might shine at that point.

Until then, my Vista machine sits like a pile of dookie I'm too afraid to clean up.

I had the same problem and the svchost.exe shoots up to 100% for ages before it loads the song as well. Hate it!! Don't know why it is doing.

Why do you even use it, then? You're still buying into the Microsoft monopoly if you wait for 'hackers' to fix it. Use something that DOESN'T treat you like a criminal, OSX, Linux, Windows 2000, whatever. Don't just whine about them doing things like this, vote with your feet. Your wallet won't hurt them, you learning and using an alternative to their system will.
