Which Vista should I get to get the most of my 4 Gb?, will it make a difference?. This notebook will be used for architecture. Autocad, 3D Max and Photoshop.
Ive read that to get the most out of the 4Gb I should get the 64 bit, if not I should stay with 2.

    Basics:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T9300 (2.5GHz 800MHz 6MBL2)
    Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
    NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M
    4 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)8
    160GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm

Vista 32 bit only recognizes 3. something GB..so you will waste a GB..but then again...for the kind of work your doing..i would install Vista 64 and more RAM .

For those apps: the more ram the better. Anyway, I'd go for 4GB of ram de facto with the prices being low as they are!

windows 32 bits only reconizes about 3.12gb of ram, the extra .8 gigs go to trash. 64 bits can recognize a load more, so for 4 gigs to be recognized u need 64 bits

I'm using Vista Home Premium 32bit and system info recognized 4GB. I don't know if it's all being utilized though. Supposedly 32bit systems can only utilize 3.25-3.5GB.

With RAM being as cheap as it is, I would definitely recommend going with 4GB. I noticed a dramatic difference between 1-1.25GB and 4GB I'm currently using. 32bit or 64bit is up to you. Personally, I don't think it's necessary for my needs though I may change my mind down the road.

I haven't had any issues with poor performance using CAD or photo editing software. I'm using a T7500 2.2GHz, with an 8600m GT which, as I recall, is technically almost the same card (one being more CAD oriented, the other being more gaming oriented). Everything runs great.

It's not all being utilized...the rest is just there =\

From my experience Vista x64 is much more stable, responsive, and friendly than the x86 version.

I had never used x86 much until recently, and I can see where a lot of people complained about Vista.

I bought 4GB of memory from newegg.com for $74 with 2 day free shipping. With the programs you listed 4GB of ram would be better.

And to a previous poster. Task Manager shows 3.837GB of use ram on my Vostro 1500. :)

If you are buying OEM OSs, buy the Vista Business 64, ^ in the list..!! (rest will be 32-bit)

Vista Ultimate Retail will fetch you two DVDs - x86-32 and x64, both in the same package..!!

Retail serial keys are flexible and can be used for both the 32bit and 64bit of that specific vista version..!!

OEMs are said (by MS) to get tied to the motherboard on the first install (but MS is now leniant with Vista) and are also BIT-SPECIFIC..!!

BEST to buy VISTA HOME PREMIUM x64 OEM....!! or ULTIMATE x64 OEM - if you have some extra cash

    Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
    Genuine Windows Vista Business
    Genuine Windows Vista Business 64
    Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate

when I choose the software in the Lenovo page, only the business version has a 64 beside it. does this mean thast is the only x64 system? or is it implicit in the other ones?

If the BIT is not mentioned, then the OS is always assumed to be 32-bit..!!

64 Bit OSs have x64 or 64 mentioned after the OS's version..!!

(That is why Business is listed twice)

You can request a 64bit OS of another version of Vista - But Business isn't that bad....But you will never be able to upgrade to a higher version of Vista (OEM)

You should call their CS and ask if you can get Vista Premium in 64 bit.
