Question 1:
I just formatted my dad's computer and put windows on there. I installed all the new drivers for his components and everything except 1 is working - the sound card. It was perfectly working before I formatted and I installed the same drivers - but no luck. On boot up, it never loads the mixer that always boots up and you can't hear anything from the speakers. The computer detects and correctly identifies the sound card through device manager, but every time I try to reinstall the driver it never works. Its a C-media 8738 PCI card.
Question 2:
I currently have cable modem service for high speed internet. I tested bandwidth of the service through one of the internet sites and it came out to 384 kb or something. When I download things on the internet, it rarely goes over 50 kbps. I don't know the exact speed of the service, but I was curious of switching over to DSL because I heard better things about it. Would a 1.5 mbps service of DSL preform better over my current internet given the stats I displayed above?
Thanks!

Question 1: What os are you using? Computer brand?
Question 2: You would notice considerable performance gains by switching to 1.5mbps. I have the same DSL speed and I routinely get downloads at average of 199kbps. -
The 1.5mb connection would be about 4 times faster.
Easy way of figuring out your actual download speed;
the internet companies give the speed in kilo/mega- bits per second, not kilo/mega bytes, which is what filesizes are measured it. 1 megabyte is 8 megabits.
so 384kbps = 48kBps, 1500kbps = 187.5kBps -
can only answer question 1:
if its the c media with the optical on XP pro.you have to load the drivers before you put the card in the machine.i got it right after three try's.and it works great. -
