Hi, i'm not sure what subject this goes under but I have two questions:
I've heard people complaining about their harddrives being partitioned into say 50/50 GB instead of 100 GB. Why it this? I'm planning to partition my 80 GB harddrive into 70/10 or something like that. I feel like it keeps my computer more organized by having a drive for all the windows system files and the system programs and having another drive for all my documents and installed software.
Does anyone know the advantages/disadvantages to partitioning drives? And also does anyone have any advice on how I should partition it?
Next, I am about to reinstall my OS on my laptop and I'm not quite sure on how to do it. Can someone help me with reinstalling, since I've read that the first that many people do when getting a new laptop is to reinstall their OS.
Thanks!!![]()

this topic can answer both if not just the reformat question.

I have never used partitions as I don't like the idea of having left over space on a partition that might be needed on another partition.
So what I'm saying is you can't move harddrive space around freely on disk partitions if more is needed on another partition than the other.
I just use the drive as a whole.

usually if a user says 50/50 partition, it is because manufacturers are creating a "restore" partition which takes up several gb (usually around 10). This will restore your laptop back to factory condition, so you'll have all of the junkware. You might have another partition for playing music or something, depending your laptop.
That's just my guess as to your question. The link that zer0 gave you will help you reformat, but it is generated towards dell, so unless you have a dell, things like how to obtain the cds/drivers, etc won't apply to you.
