This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    20 % of my external drives have gone missing?!

    He guys, I was hoping you could help me out....

    I know it sounds strange, but about a month ago 20 % of all my external drives disapired.

    128 mb USB stick suddonly displays a capacity of 94 mb and 500 gb external harddrive displays a capacity of around 420 gb.

    I've checked, and there is no pagefile on either, and system recovery is disabled...

    WTF?!?!?!

    Does anyone have a clue what the f... is going on??

    I'm running win xp home on an inspiron 6400 laptop, and i'm set up to view system files etc...

    It may not be the case, but I had a similar issue with a thumb drive, and it was only via an alternate file manager XYplorer that I realized that it was the Recycled bin on THAT drive that was taking up space! Win Expl doesn't show it the same way so you don't know what it's taking. When I reduced the RB, I got the space back...
