my wife's new laptop with Win 10 doesn't have her name on a folder such as mine in File Explorer.

The folder is identical in contents to C:\Users\[login email truncated to 5 char]. The folder with my full name has an icon in front of my name that looks like an icon I've seen elsewhere that depicts a person (dark hair and green shirt).

Both my wife and I log in using Microsoft account credentials.

I can't find any information on what created the folder like mine during windows installation and/or initial login. I'd like her laptop file system to be structured as both of my laptops were set up by Win 10.

Try having her create a new user profile and remove the original user profile if that solves the problem.

As to why hers is different, there could be many reasons. Are all exactly the same edition and release versions of Windows? Were both of yours OEM/factory installs or clean installs you did later? I am assuming hers is an OEM/factory install since you mentioned the laptop is new.

If you start out with a local profile and later create a Micro$lop account login, the original user name will be how the user folder will be named. I do this on purpose because I prefer to not have folders with my Micro$loth user name. When I do a clean install I disconnect from the internet and use a local account with "Owner" as the user name. I later sign in with my Micro$lope credentials and the folder for my user files remains named "Owner" even though my Micro$lip user name is "Mr. Fox" and I am signed in. I prefer to have it that way.

I got it fixed. Someone on FB gave me the answer: Turn on "Show all folders" in the File Explorer settings. I couldn't find that answer with all of my lengthy Googling.

Just remember W10 just like before unless you the user changes those settings in Explorer options it uses the standard default. And I think that is on Google it depends on what you type for Google to find.
