    I'm getting a lappy that has a 32 bit vista home premium, can I upgrade home premium 32 to ultimate 64, or can you only upgrade 32 to 32 and 64 to 64? thanks

    omg, this has been discussed so many times... :p

    x86 <=====> x86
    x86 <==//==> x64

    You can only clean install from x86 to x64.

    I also have a quick question. Would 4gb of RAM work better with Home Premium 32 bit or 64 bit? Not up to date with 64 bit version at all.

    joe, you need 64 bit to use all 4 gigs, and thanx for trying to help live, but I didn't quite understand your answer, a simple yes or no would of been more help, plus less to type :)

    No upgrade, only clean install

    Yes

    :)

    EDIT: You can do the double install (as I call it) trick: http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=5932

    As others have said, you can't do an in-place upgrade from 32- to 64-bit; you'll have to do a clean install.
    However, I do believe that you can buy the upgrade version and use the upgrade key to do the clean install.

    So as long as you're willing to clean-install, there shouldn't be any problem with what you want to do.

    Actually I havent even got the lappy yet, and I ordered a new Hdd to put in it anyways, so everything will be clean, does the upgrade cd have all the same files as the full cd?
