You can buy a license from Microsoft.com, and they send you one of those Vista Anytime Upgrade disc-a-mabobers. I cannot provide you with a link, I will do a quick search if nothing off to bed!
Edit: Here is where you can buy it. Also, I read 'round these forums that a 32-bit key works for 64. Example: 32-bit Buisness key works for 64-bit Buisness. I haven't tried so I cannot confirm, maybe someone else can? -
your key for 32 bit vista works w/ 64bit vista -- you can just have 1 of them installed.
no need to buy the disk--check out orev's clean install guide in the hp forum sticky!! it has links for the 64 bit disk!! -
none of those links work for the 64bit download
-
Daily bandwidth limit must have been reached. It goes up and down every few days.
Its best you get a hard copy of Vista with SP1 integrated.
The download links can require alot of time and effort to get working. They also dont include SP1. -
so i should just spend 100 bucks at newegg for the 64bit vista disc in this link?

anyone? i wanna make sure i dont waste 100 bucks lol
-
I think you will have to re-install
-
i know ill have to re-install lol, im asking if i need to buy the 100 dollar 64 bit disc from newegg if i wanna change from 32bit vista to 64bit vista
-
Do you have a Vista install disk, as both versions are on it!
-
no, i just have the upgrade disc from when i went from xp to vista 32bit, no 64 bit on it
-
Why don't you order a Vista disk, It`s like $14 and you are a US resident.
-
how do yu get a vista disc? you mean one without a license key? im confused, all i have is a 32bit key
-
your vista32 bit key will work for vista64 as well, I will see it i can find the link for the $14 upgrade disk.
-
im using a oem version of vista 32bit right now, so i dont think i can upgrade to the 64 bit disc using the same key
-
I did, you are allowed to choose! 32 or 64
-
so if i get the oem vista 64 bit disc for 100 bucks, since its oem will that allow me to only install it once? what if i choose to re-install one day because of a crash? can i with the oem disc? and will i have all the updates that retail discs get online?
-
If you already have vista licence, you can buy a vista install disk for $14.
I am trying to find the link to the correct page on the Microsoft website, but i am not having much luck. -
Ill clear this up for you.
All you need to do is procure ANY sort of Vista x64 install disc. It doesnt matter if its a $15 or a $2000 disc aslong as you get hold of one. Your current 32bit vista licence can be used to activate 64bit version.
32/64bit is practically the same thing. The only difference in between is the system files. Technically, your not getting any extra features on 64bit other than a more secure 4gb+ support. -
I think i have found it! , phew!

enjoy
EDIT : they only ship to the USA -
that wont work for me because i have an oem version of vista 32bit, it wont accept my key. So how can i get a copy of 64bitvista so i can use my 32bit key...i need to buy it for 100 bucks with another key...i need all 4gb of my ram
-
Hi.
I was going to PM you, but i cannot find the option, mabe you can PM me? -

try this: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/1033/ordermedia/default.mspx
you could try this ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=240320) also and hope that the links begin working again. when they work, they're real fast. -
Answer & Question: When I purchased my Vista Ultimate, it came with two disks, one for 32 bit and the other for 64 bit. I installed the 32 bit. Now I'm thinking that maybe I should install the 64 bit but I'm not sure what advantages there are to going with 64 bit. I don't use it for gaming or really use any programs other than everyday software like Windows Works, etc. Is my question answered somewhere on this site as I couldn't locate it? Thanks,
-
Unless you want to use 4 GB of RAM for some reason, stick with 32-bit.
-
I dont think that works with an OEM key!
-
I heard somewhere that if you bought the retail version of 32-bit Vista you can request a free copy of the 64-bit version from Microsoft, since your license is active for either 32-bit or 64-bit
-
Crash, aren't there other reasons to go x64?
-
HaloGod, heres my story:
Use Velocity2.0's WORKING links...his thread's somewhere in the windows forum.
Download the 64bit Media, burn it to a disc. Then do a clean install using the 64 bit disc with your OEM 32bit key. The only problem with using a 32bit OEM key is you will have to CALL and activate. Online activation doesn't work.
It worked for me with my laptop. I used the 64bit retail ULTIMATE disc(windows feedback panel). Since i already used the 32bit key on my other laptop, i used the key on the bottom of my newer laptop and it worked. So no you don't have to spend a single PENNY to go 64 bit. -
Yes but the RAM limit is the biggest reason (IMO) to go to 64-bit for the average user. There are some more reasons discussed here...

which is a response to...

Oh, I'm familiar with the other reasons already, for the most part. I'm sure I'll learn some new things with the links you provided, though. Thanks.
-
Oh ok
Yea, I mean 64-bit provides other improvements other than just the ability to address more RAM, but the additional RAM is probably the biggest/most important reason of them all. -
OEM keys work both ways HaloGod2007.
-
my original post, in case you didn't see it.
yeah, i said this already
said this too. and i thought you could use orev's activation tool instead of calling? -
Yea, use orev's clean install guide to install Vista without having to call and activate.
-
Gotcha. That was my biggest incentive too. However, I glad I upgraded after finding out about some of the other advantages. In fact, I'm more excited about some of the other advantages than about the RAM.
-
For some odd reason, orev's tool wasn't able to save the activation info from my computer
. The main point is you can use your OEM key either way.
-
The $100 is for a license, which you don't need. Just the disc which is much cheaper.
A disc has all versions like Home, Ultimate, etc... but not all architectures (32/64 bit). It's only 32 or 64, not both.
Nope, you can use the same key on 32 or 64, as long as they are both the version you bought (Ultimate, etc...)
Yup, but that's only retail, doesn't apply to OEM
Strange. Did this happen recently or a while ago? I fixed a bug that was causing some problems a few weeks ago.
32 to 64bit
