Is it more efficent to disable the virtual memory and page pooling in for better perfermance in Windows XP?
-
i doubt you would see a difference either way. with 3gb you hardly even use page file anyway
-
In XP, I used to disable it, I have 4 GB of RAM.
But in Vista, although I had 4 GB or RAM, I used to run out of memory after opening IE and a few tabs. Although I don't play any games, not run any memory intensive programs, but believe me, you never know how ram gets eaten up.....
Office,,,, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Audition, Windows Media Player, antivirus, windows live messenger, they magically make up huge numbers depending on what you're doing.
my advice to u.....keep it, the increase u get from disabling it is usually unnoticable if there is any.......just make sure you use a tweaking program called Mz Ultimate Tweaker, and check the option that says "Disable Executive Paging" >>>> This way, the system files are never gonna be loaded to virtual memory, but will always be resident in the RAM, to ensure they are always available in RAM for the fastest access time. -
Don't disable the page file - It yields no noticeable (by humans) improvements in performance and it leaves your computer susceptible to crashes and data loss.
EDIT: And I don't recommend using MZ Tweaker either. People have reported unrepairable system failures after using it that could only be "fixed" by re-installing Windows. -
nice to know that about MZ tweakers Crash
will refrain from using it in the future..... -
Yep! Page files is needed for whole system stability and safety.
Moreover, I saw a research/experiment last time shown page files gives higher HDD data transfer rate.
Just leave it there. I think at least 2GB would be nice. -

Like a broken record player - just "leave the pagefile alone" It is there for a good reason.
cheers ...
3GB Ram and XP 32Bit
