Hi, I have Logitech X-530 5.1 speakers and I'm using an external USB 5.1 sound card (Zalman). It comes with a software called "Sonix Sound Station". The software is very old and is dated at December 2003. It will constantly pops up when I tried to play something with 5.1 sound and ask me if I want to turn it off. If I don't turn it off the sound will become unclear since it is changing 5.1 sound source into 5.1 sound, which will stuff up the balance. So every time I will turn it OFF but after that when I wants to listen to some 2.1 music I will have to turn it ON again... It becomes very annoying to have to constantly turn it ON or OFF. :(

So I want to ask if there is any good sound software that will automatically converts 2.1 sound to 5.1 sound AND also will automatically turn itself OFF when original 5.1 sound is being played. Thanks for your time.

a 2.1 to 5.1 sound converter will always make the sound sound odd. Stick to 5.1 for movies and games.

Well as I said before I will turn OFF the program if the game or movie with 5.1 sound is being played. However, I would like to have my 2.1 sound convert to 5.1 sound so that there will be sound coming out from 5 speakers instead of only 2.

Therefore I'm looking for a program which will turn 2.1 sound source into 5.1 sound BUT will not touch the 5.1 sound source... Hope that make sense and plz help!

foobar2000 does it automatically I believe... it or a plugin...

Also sounds the best, and you can customize it.

    Foobar2000 ftw

Alright I've got Foobar2000. However, I'm not sure how to use it... When I play my 2.1 music I'm still getting 2.1 sound instead 5.1 sound. Mind explain how to do it? And does it automatically converts ALL sounds to 5.1? Or is it just for music but not for games? Thanks.

Thanks for the link! :) I didn't noticed they have a download page.. :p Anyway, I've tried the driver and it is a slightly updated version of what I was using. It is dated at May 2004 which isn't really new. And it's basically the same as the previous version I was using. (prefer to my first post) ie. it stills constantly pops up when I tried to play something with 5.1 sound source and ask me if I want to turn it off. So if anyone here knows there is a better 5.1 sound program plz share it with me... ;)

    Jeez...

To use Foobar2000's automatic 5.1 (which is 4.1 converting), just go to preferences, dsp manager, and then add convert stereo to 4 channels.

    It's not hard.

This plugin though, may be much more to your liking:

    http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index...s_0.9/Channel_Mixer_%28foo_channel_mixer)

As always, follow what I said above. Add this to your program files/foobar2000/components directory, then go to active dsps, and add it.

I forgot about the channel mixer. Foobar's built in channel mixer sounds odd, but the channel mixer plugin sounds pretty good.

Thanks for your help and the link above. :) The plugin do sounds better than the 4.1 converting. However, will there be a program which does the same thing for games as well? ie. convert 2.1 game sound to 5.1 sound. Cheers. ;)
