For the Lenovo site, it gives you these options:

I know Vista Business 64 is 64 bit... but how do you tell if the others are 64 bit? here is the link but it doesn't say which is which anywhere.

Also, since I will only have 2gb/3gb of RAM, will getting a 64bit ver still speed up the computer?

Lastly, I heard 64-bit versions of any OS have compatibility problems. Would I not be able to use many third party programs?

    Thanks

On the others, you can use the serial number to request a 64bit disk from microsoft (or possibly from lenovo). So you can get 64bit with any of them.

    No.

Compatibility issues are limited generally to device drivers, and with vista are generally the exception rather than the rule. Applications can run in 32bit emulation, so there shouldnt be any compatibility issues.

You'd probably have to specially request the 64 bit disc from Lenovo. Since the serial is OEM you won't be able to get one from Microsoft.

Vista x64 is a bit faster than Vista 32 bit. I would recommend it.

I haven't run into any programs I haven't been able to run in Vista x64.

So, could I download a 64-bit patch and upgrade from the 32-bit, or is what you get set in stone?

No, it is a separate installation.

There is no such thing as a 64-bit "patch". 64-bit architecture is entirely different from 32-bit and requires a complete clean install.

Some 32bit program makers will warn you that their software will not run on 64bit systems. It product specific. Gotta do your research before buying softwares.

Also, some hardware (mainly older stuff) may not have 64-bit drivers available.

If it doesn't specifically say 64, then it's probably 32-bit.
