Hey everyone, I've just done a clean install of Vista Ultimate 64, and have since discovered that the Adobe PDF Reader is not a 64 bit application, and therefore will not show previews of PDF files in windows explorer, which is a feature I like!

So, I pose the question does anyone know of a program that will allow this? I have done a quick search of the forums and also google but couldnt find anything...

I have downloaded PDF XChange Viewer, apparently it had this feature but it isnt working for me, maybe someone can help?

    Thanks all!

Why have you concluded that it won't show previews just because it's not a 64-bit app?

Possibly because you are on Windows 7? Out of interest did you change any settings or anything when you first installed Adobe?

I see, well I recently upgraded from Home Premium 32 bit to Ultimate 64 bit and I definately had previews/thumbnails in explorer before!

I read on one of the pages I found on google that because it is only a 32 bit app. then it would not show thumbnails in a 64 bit OS!

    Thanks for the replies guys

Vish is right - Adobe started 64 bit support on all its programs with the CS4 release, but Acrobat 8 actually supports 64 bit, one of their first to do so. You need at least to upgrade to Acrobat 8 or 9 Reader for 64-bit support.

I had Adobe Reader 9, wasn't aware it was 64 bit... Well perhaps I decided it wasn't after reading the two fore mentioned websites :p. Anyway I had 9 installed and couldn’t get the thumbnail previews.

Yeah, that is why I downloaded it!

Strangely, when I first installed it (along with a shell extension to enable thumbnail previews in explorer), I did not get thumbnail previews. Restarted my machine, still no joy! That was when I decided to make this post.

Since then I have restarted my machine and I now have the previews... Do not ask me why but I have them! So it's all sorted now :) thanks for the replies guys
