Hey, this is my first post but I`ve been reading alot of threads over the past year.
So i plan on installing 64-bit Windows Vista Business on my Dell XPS 1530 that currently has vista business x86 installed.
I gathered up all the drivers I think I need from other threads (mostly the compatible ones from the xps 1330 thread) and other websites, like intel or upek.
The only problem i am having is the Intel Matrix Manager. I downloaded the file for 64-bit, f6flpy64.exe from intel`s website and when i try to execute the file to create a floppy (or USB floppy), nothing happens. Is this a big deal to skip this step and just use ATA support instead of the AHCI support that this would provide?
Also before i proceed with this, is there any other thing i should have handy before doing it. So far, on a thumb drive i have drivers for :
Intel 965pm chipset
nvidia 8600M GT
built in webcam
upek fingerprint reader
intel proset wireless
broadcom NIC
symnaptics touchpad
Quickset setup from the 1330
Thanks for your help as i am looking forward to upgrading to Vista x64

I'd get the SP1 standalone updater... although you can just download SP1 after installing if you prefer.
As for the drivers, I wouldn't even bother. The built-in drivers should run your computer well enough to download and install other drivers. Windows Update should pick up most drivers automatically, and you can always install anything else you want later. Some stuff I would skip entirely. I never bothered to install Intel proset when I reinstalled Windows... wireless works fine without it.
I don't know what Intel Matrix Manager is... sorry. Is it really needed? ok I found some page on it... unless you're using RAID, I don't think you'll need it. (And since the M1530 only supports one hard drive....) No need to go to ATA... Vista supports SATA out of the box.
You worry too much.Just reinstall Vista. It's smart; it'll take care of everything, download all the drivers, etc. Just install SP1 and you're fine.

thanks. I have a Vista Business x64 dvd w/SP1. So i should be fine then. I just feel more comfortable having the drivers before hand incase it doesnt recognize my chipset or broadband or something preventing me from using windows update

Get vlite and integrate Vista SP1 into your Vista files and make a CD. That way you will not need the matrix drivers during setup. I have done this myself.
