Which processors from Intel are classified as 64-bit allowing x64 Vista to work? Do the new 965 models from Intel on most new laptops count as 64-bit processors?

    The following processors are 64-bit:

    AMD Athlon 64 (all models)
    AMD Turion 64 (all models)
    AMD Semprons manufactured 2006-onwards
    Intel Core 2 Duo
Intel Pentium 4 6xx and Extreme Edition series
    Intel Pentium D
    Intel Celeron M 5xx series

    The following processors are not:

    Intel Pentium Dual-Core
Intel Celeron M 4xx and below
    Intel Pentium M
    Intel Core Duo
Most AMD Semprons manufactured before 2006
    Anything older than those mentioned

Thanks for the quick reply. When you mention Pentium Dual-Core that means processors labelled as "Core Duo" right?

Well, kind of. There is a separate branding called "Intel Pentium Dual Core", which is essentially a Core Duo with half the cache. Like the Core Duo, they are 32-bit only. This is all in contrast to the Core 2 Duo, which is 64-bit.

Good list .. Clears things up. I always get confused about the Dual-Core and Core 2 Duo difference. Really never knew there was a differ.

Isn't AMD coming out with a faster chip soon?
