if i get the free beta, am i eligible to get the full windows 7 for free when it comes out? or only if i have vista?
-
-
No....
The beta is available to the public for free. That's not the case with the full version. -
i didn't know how this thing works.
inspecifics. I get a computer this month. How do i go about getting 7 for free like people speak of -
Within a month (probably around July 1st) companies will begin to offer free vista-->windows 7 vouchers. Microsoft is allowing this; companies are not mandated to do this, but I'd imagine most of the major ones will. I think BestBuy might already have this policy in place.

"June 26, 2009 through January 31, 2010" are the supposed "qualifies for free upgrade" dates. http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=609&pgno=1
Note that the OEMs (Dell, HP, etc.) have some leverage to shorten the dates for their systems.
Of course, Windows 7 itself will not be released into the wild until October. -
so wait, you just go and pick it up? or do you have to buy a laptop directly from them?
If you have to buy it from them, will Xotic PC be offering the deal? -

you should get a coupon from the place you are buying the laptop after july 1st,
this coupon will make u eligible for windows 7 free upgrade when it comes out ( i read this somewhere, i can't remember ) -
thank you guys much

With my Dell for example, I qualified for a free upgrade to Vista. Of course, for "free" it cost me $10 in shipping.. but they sent me a DVD with the upgrade. It was *only* the upgrade version, which was annoying, and only 32-bit. I never even opened it.

i heard the versions are supposed to match what yuo already have
32=32
64=64 -

I'll just wait and buy a new laptop which comes preinstalled With Windows 7 after it is released, saves me the hassle of configuring / installing teh drivers .
My next Laptop is a SONY, as I owned a Sony SZ series prior to this HP and absolutely loved the screen, HP's screen suck big time compared to Sony's I am supposed to be having a laptop which is equipped with a BRIGHT VIEW SCREEN! LOL, POS really -
Look for an LED backlight screen. I find it is absolutely brilliant (no pun intended, well maybe) on my Lenovo. Despite other things I'm not too fond of on it, the screen is real and it's spectacular!

So i downloaded the free version of windows 7 yesterday. i wanted to know if i can upgrade this free version to the full version( just buy a key) when the full version drops. I really didnt want to rebuild from scratch.
-
Maybe, last time you can't go from build 7232 to build 7260 by upgrading. I'm not sure if that would be the case for the full version.
-
i keep hearing about these higher builds. When i downloaded from microsoft yesterday, the gave me 7100 version. why would they not give me the latest version?
-
No, ms have already confirmed that you will have to do a fresh install. this is the same for the upgrade from beta 1 to RC as it wouldnt be a real world situation etc
i know it sucks im holding of my move to w7 as my main os untill it releases cos of this atm im multi booting my pc with vista w7 and ubutnu and running laptop on vista
cant wait till october.... -

These are not 'free' versions. They are test builds that for whatever reason/method have been leaked to world+dog.
And no, in-plae upgrades from a beta/RC build to a Real Final Official Release is not supported by msft. You will have go scrub your machine blank (format) and rebuild from a real bought-from-msft dvd. -
You must do a clean install of the final version.

Merged your thread with the other one as they are on the same topic.
