I went to sleep last night with my laptop on and now I cannot boot back to windows. I can get into the bios menu but I cannot boot into safe mode or anything past that. I've tried f8 for a long time now and I still cannot get into it.

Anyone help?! I need my laptop asap for school.

did you use backup to create a system image and can you boot from any dvd? if you can boot from a DVD then at least you know it isn't dead in the water.

What about the Win7 Upgrade disc?

I got it to pop up and can boot to any dvd but I haven't the install disc for windows 7 or an upgrade disc. I know its not dead in the water and thank god its not. Its just a windows error. I hope to save my files though. I dont want to have to reformat. Thats what I'm trying to not do.

So long as it is the retail version anyone who has a DVD should be able to help you with a loan. You just need to be sure you have your key just in case. I think there is a repair option so you may be alright.............

I cant get into safe boot. It wont let me get to last known config.... it automaticly pops up and starts a recovery process... I can see all my files and windows files in the recovery but I dont know what to do. It says the fallowing @ the recovery screen:

"If the system image is on a DVD, insert the last DVD from the system image backup. Click Advcanced to add a network location or install a driver for a backup device if it does not show up on the list below"

Nothing is showing up on the list below.... I dont know what I'm supposed to do after this.... Should I try and make a back up on a usb drive or something? how would I go about doing so?

you should have a hidden recovery partition in your harddrive. I know you've already tried it but the only way to access this partition is by pushing the F8 key just after turning your laptop ON. So try again. Keep pressing and releasing the F8 button until you can see the recovery menu.

    EDIT:
Do as if you're reinstalling Vista but don't go all the way. You should see a repair option somewhere. This should repair Vista without deleting your files and programs

It is likely that you OS was to corrupted to allow yo access to the safemode.
Hopefully the repair procedure will fixe it. If it doesn't you will to do a full re-install of Windows :(

Can not format is either the HDD took a train out town with a one way ticket of yu got a virus tat did a major play on the MBR and format and Windows can not recognize the partition types. If you are willing to loose all data try a bootable Linux utility DVD and force the drive over to NTFS..........

When i say I cannot format I mean that I cant get into windows to format... You can see my HDD from bios and you can also see the files in it when clicking "advanced" on the recovery option. I can see every file on my computer..

IT JUST WONT BOOT UP... ...

    BTW

I've tried safemode, I've got the boot disc, and I've done this recover thing about 100 times now...

The boot disc that I am using is windows 7 and when I make my CD drive the #1 priority and try to boot from it it says Operationg System not found..... Sigh ...

I have been trying to fix my laptop for about 10 hours now :*( .... I'm exhausted and getting tired of no help or advice in the other forums... Now off to the problem.

When I woke up this morning my laptop was in hybernation mode... Nothing special.. It wouldn't awake so I had to manually restart it by pressing the power button... (Yet again not a big deal as windows 7 has problems with the hibernation if it was upgraded from vista... both are 64 bit editions by the way). The computer was stuck at the flashing dash screen for about 10 minutes then prompted to the recovery screen.

When the recovery completes the message that comes up is something along the lines of "failed to save options" .... Either way the changes fail to be implemented. ... Now, restarting again letting it do the same thing, it prompts to the recovery screen... Instead of doing the recovery option this time I came upon a screen that asks me to locate a driver.. (I have no clue of the driver it is asking for either as it doesnt tell me which it is wanting)

    Additional information:

From the recovery menu and etc when trying to browse for a driver, I can see all my files that are on my HDD... So I can somewhat access the files...

Also, I have a windows x64 boot disc that will not boot.... The ISO works fine yet it doesn't reconise it when my computer boots past bios... I have already changed the CD drive to the 1 priority when booting in bios.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm going crazy here and everything I try is failing.... SOMEONE!

"the iso works fine" What do you mean, the iso works fine? And you note x64 boot disc...why do you call it that rather than a Windows 7 boot disk?

I realize your tired and upset, but the first thing to do is slow down, take a deep breath and relax. From what you've said, your data is safe so that is the first priority. From here it's all easy.

Let's back up. Windows 7. 64-bit or 32-bit? Is the "iso" the disk you used to install windows 7 on this machine? Is it even a windows 7 disk (or a vista 64-bit).

If it is not the Windows disk you used to install, where did you get it? Do you know how to burn an "iso" file? An iso file is a disk image and needs to be restored as an image. I don't want to insult you if you know these things, but the number of people who burn an iso ONTO a disk as opposed to burning the ISO image TO a disk would fill a football stadium.

    What kind of laptop?

We need to know what resources you have-- panicking does no one any good.

What recovery menu actions have you performed? Exactly.

The RC or RTM? You really should get a hold of a retail disc. Where is the disc you used to upgrade with or were you still on RC?

Yeah. Well, we are not much help without knowing some basic information, like your Laptop Model. Like gerryf19 said, did you burn the ISO onto the disc, or to the disc; both are different. Once we know some of this information, then we can help you a little better. :) BTW Calm Down - It will all work out!

He has a P-7805u, he was in that thread originally. He doesn't have a retail boot disc, from what I've gathered so far it is from and ISO but not sure from where or what it is an ISO of. He claimed Win7 Ultimate x64 disk and hasn't yet advised if it was an RTM or RC disc etc...........

Edit; The P7805 are all vista machines by default. The Gateway recovery, if it works from the HDD, would be a vista recovery.

Edit Again; took out the link now that it is merged..........

If I understand well the DVD that you have has an iso file inside (a file named "something.iso").
Ok this file is an image and needs to be burned into a DVD. To do that you have to copy the file to the harddrive of a working computer and then use a burning software to burn it. If you don't have one then use CDBurnerXP. It's free and can be downloaded from http://cdburnerxp.se/.
