Hello! I'm not sure if this is the right part of the forum for this question. Sorry, if not![]()
So, I want to get a new laptop and I found an offer for one that in addition to a normal 500 GB HDD also has a 80 GB SDD. My friend told me that I could use the SDD for the system/programs and the HDD for files. Thing is that I want to have a dual boot Ubuntu/Windows 7 and I am not sure if 80 GB would be enough for both including all programs I might install at some point. So I wanted to ask you whether you think that would work or if in case I could also use part of the HDD for programs if I run out of space in the SDD. Also, is it possible to have the HDD available for both Ubuntu and Windows 7? (Right now I can access the Windows XP part when in Ubuntu but not the other way around)
Thank you very much for your help![]()

Depends how much space your programs and files take up on each OS. I have a 256 GB SSD and It's not enough to dual boot because I have only about 50 GB free right now (and plan to fill it up soon). Another option is to run Ubuntu in a virtual machine like Virtual Box.
To make the HDD available to both, you could store all of your files on a separate partition and that way both OSs can access it -
Yes, 80GB should be good enough. Make sure you plan on what software you might want to use in the future. I'm only using about half of my 80GB SSD and I have some games installed.
80 GB enough for dual boot?
