    Hi folks,

I was trying to install a Demo game "Battlefiled 2" on my laptop that has Vista Home Prem, 64-Bit. The program was trying to install "DirectX 9" on my laptop! So I stopped the installation.

I know I already have "DirectX 10" on my laptop (part of Vista).

Q1: Do I need "DirectX 9" to run the game?

Q2: If not I wonder if I can do custom install and skip installation of the DirectX 9?

Q3: Can you have Directx 9 and Directx 10 on the same computer (Vista)?

    Thanks,

    G! :)

You can let it install DX9, it'll realise that you have DX10 and skip the rest of the installation of DX9. The game will run fine.

So in other words - just reinstall the game and everything will be fine in respect of DX.

whenever your installing a game and it asks you to install directx, you have to. if you don't let it install, it will rollback the installation.

it may be that one specific release of dx is not yet on your pc. it'll install it then for you (there are bimonthly releases?). each game uses exactly it's version for biggest compatibility. so even while you have up to and dx10, it may be, you don't have dx9 from may 2008 or so (that one dll from then) => it gets installed.
if not, it doesn't install anything. it just checks it has that version you need.
