i need some help guys. i am trying to find a decent video/music player and a video converter that i can use with my Ipod Classic.

as far as the video/music player goes, i leave itunes and winamp open to return to but would like to try others. mediamonkey didnt even make it out of the starting gate as that just hung. i am asking about a video converter because earlier today avast! detected a trojan in videora ipod converter i am using. i have used this program many times with no ill effects. so why is a trojan suddenly detected?

any and all help is really appreciated and useful.

The format is what is important, not what device it was branded for.

For converting and encoding files I recommend SUPER. It is in the "Best FREE Software for Windows" thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=206289

It will convert pretty much any type of video/audio file. What I really like about it is that there are custom defaults for iPods, Zunes, PSPs, etc. I use it to convert shows from my DVR to my Zune.

If you are looking for a player to simply play music, I recommend foobar2000. I use that at work, as I just need something to shuffle music with no frills that's very light. However, my main player at home is Windows Media Player 11 (I like it quite a bit).

Check the Best Free Software thread. The only two I know of are iTunes and Media Monkey...sorry.

i don't know if this helps but i have had nothing but bliss with the AL show media player. it is purely a video player, and has great features like a nice complement of hotkeys on the keyboard and a full set of downloaded codecs. check it out.

foobar2k, as mentioned, is a good one.
