I used to have Norton System Works for Win 98, 95, and XP....I loved the PC repair/diagnostics.....but now I have Vista and I'm fed up with upgrading and spending $$$$. I bought "Norton 360" for $29 thinking it had the "registry repairs, etc" but it does not...it's a bit misleading the way they word it..."PC tune up".

Anyway, I have the 360 and all I want now is a program that scans and repairs Vista/computer file and program problems. Is there any freeware programs? I'm not spending ANOTHER $50 for a Norton product that I have bought 3 times already.

    Any suggestions?

Norton system works would scan Windows for problems and would check the boot sectors of the disk as well. This seems similar.... but I'm not sure. I guess I'll give it a try. Have you used it?

ccleaner is a very simple app, yet powerful (use it myself). But if you want a more thorough registry cleaning, use the two I linked to in the above post

Yes, Tune Up 2007 is a good one that will do more tasks (but the trial period is 30 days)

I have used CCleaner and it does a good job. In fact, cleaning invalid entries from the registry is a way to "repair" it

I just used "tune up" and it seems to do exactly what "Norton" PC tune up would do....I like it. I am at work and used it on XP, I assume I can use it on Vista.
