For a long time my editor of choice was videopad, but it's since been made 'buy only' and they actually made the software worse as well.

I'm now looking for something that can import a wide range of formats and has a good workflow. I've tried windows movie maker and it made me want to go skydiving without a parachute. Something free or at least very economical would be great.

    Any suggestions?

SD or HD. If HD I know of some paid ones but no good free ones. If you had trouble learning WMM then you will have heaps of trouble learning the good editors because they are more complicated and do more.

I don't need HD, SD will do.

I didn't have trouble learning WMM... I mean please, it's like a fisher price movie editor. What I didn't like was the encumbered workflow and lack of features.

What do you want freemake, you load a video, cut it up and it will save the results to virtually any format you want, that`s a video editor it might e basic but you have to pay if you want more options.

Kdenlive is by far the most advanced free video editor, i can almost rival Adobe Premiere and Whatnot.

However, it is linux only </3
