In an attempt to setup file sharing between a Win2000 laptop and my home network that uses winXP and winXP Pro I did the following.

Start - Right click My Computer - Properties - Computer Name - In looking for a way to join my homenetwork Workgroup I may of made a domain change by accident.

Then I restarted the Win2000 notebook, and was faced with an administrator logon screen.

The Win2000 computer belongs to a friend who is not very computer literate (niether am I when it comes to Win2000). I don't know if my friend has set an administrator password. Is there any way to undo the changes I've made?

    Anyhelp would be appreaciated.

So you set it up to log into a Domain controller and now it is prompting for a password where it did not before?

If the laptop wasn't on a Domain, just part of a Workgroup, you would've been prompted immediately to enter a Domain Admin account when changing to a domain to join the domain. If there wasn't a NT/W2k Server / domain controller on the network, there's no way you could've put the laptop on a domain.

It sounds like the laptop may have just been configured for 'auto-logon' if you've never been prompted for a password before. If you just leave the password blank and hit Logon, does it login? Also, expand the Advanced button if it's there and make sure the name of the machine is in the dropdown list.
