The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    A-Patch & Ad Hack

    Windows Live Messenger, MSN Messenger, and AIM are all bloated with tons of ads. And, if you're a minimalist like myself, you find even large buttons and unnecessary tool bars annoying... and that's when you use these "patches".

    A-Patch is the better of the two. Not only does it have over 70 customizations, but it also lets you preview them before you "patch" it. It works with both WLM and MSN.

    Ad Hack doesn't give you a preview or nearly as many options, but it does remove the ads which is the important part...
