    Slight Panic here---

So I wanted to organize my My Music folder... I opened two instances of the folder, and created new subfolders in the one and copied the music from the second into the new folders i created in the first. the problem: Now I can't access my music. I cannot change any of the attributes, filenames, etc, nor can I play it. any ideas? Thanks

did you restart after copying. I am just wondering if the explorer shell might have caused an error/semi crashed.

Moving files shouldn't do any actual moving, it more of an address change. So I am sure your files are there.

Are you using an NTFS partition?

i think i may have confused explorer.... you know how when you try to open a folder a second time the first one only comes to the front? well.. i opened the second window by right clicking the folder, hitting 'explore' and just xing out the bar along the side. Then i dragged the music from one folder to another. The drive that the music is on doesn't have a partition at all, and finally, yes i have restarted the computer.

I fear my music is lost in a parallel universe on my computer, with a second dimension of My Music. Good thing i still have all my music on my mp3 player...

i don't understand what you mean by the drive the music is on doesn't have a paritition? if that were the case, you would not be able to copy any data onto it.

having multiple instances of the same folder and working with them at the same time doesn't affect anything. I do it all the time when I am filing my stuff.

So no can you see the files at the original source or at the destination?

its fixed... some creative googling found this thread

    http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-12043.html
(look for the post by shindouhikaru)
and it turns out the problem was when i copied the music, the permissions got messed up. So they're now fixed, and i can listen again...

drumfu, i thought you were asking if the drive was partitioned (i misread). it is in fact ntfs.

the files were showing up at where i put them, i just couldn't do anything to them because i had somehow lost my permission (who knows how)

    thanks for the help!
