ABR Software unable to create backup-cert.xrm-ms

    Hello Friends

Need Help as I and 3 more of my friends are experiencing problems with the ABR Utility: ABR (Activation Backup and Restore) | directedge.us

The problem is that the ABR activation_backup.exe is able to create the .txt file, but is unable to create backup-cert.xrm-ms

When we double click on the activation_backup.exe, the CMD window flashes for less than a second and disappears

So I tried running the program using CMD, so that I can see errors if any. Please see the screenshot below to see the error:

I request you to please help me with this, as me and my friends have tried lots of time but the program is unable to create backup-cert.xrm-ms

    Help Appreciated

    Thanks and Regards :)

Perhaps it's regular OEM windows, not branded Royalty OEM? I know it gives an error, since regular does not have certificate to back up.

    Nope,

I think the problem is with the program itself

The earlier version of the program, which I downloaded many months ago was able to create the certificate. Please see the screenshot, this was taken many months back and from my Laptop Only:

Now the current version of the program is unable to create backup file, on same PC with same OS

I never re-installed the OS on my lappy, so as per my best knowledge the problem is with the ABR program

    Help appreciated

    Thanks and Regards

What version of Windows are you trying to backup?

Looking at those screenshots, version 1.0 you used is meant for Windows Vista only. Version 1.7 beta backups both Vista and 7.

    Hi KLF

Thanks a ton for your precious input

I was able to backup my Activation Certificate using ABR 1.7, but my friends are still unable to do so :(

So, are they using Regular OEM Windows? and have to stick with the Restoration Disk/Utility provided by their Laptop Manufacturer? - AFAIK these Restoration Disks/Utility doesn't clean Install Windows 7, the installation using these Restoration Disks/Utility is full of crapware and pre-installed softwares which manufacturer wants in its Customer PC

    Anyways, please answer me following:

    1. How to check whether the OS is Regular OEM or Royalty OEM?
    2. Apart from ABR, is there any other utility/manual method by which a user can backup his/her Activation Certificate?

    Help Appreciated

Thanks a lot and Regards :)

Download link for the 1.7b was in the first post, link you provided yourself :)

Those restore discs also restore the royalty oem activation, that can be backed up and then restored to clean install.

Run these in elevated command prompt:
    slmgr -dli
    slmgr -dlv

Results should show if windows is from OEM, Retail or OEM_SLP (offline activation).

I don't know how to extract certificate from windows, probably cannot be done manually. I only know how to restore them from commandline.

I tried ABR on my new Samsung RV511 so i couple install a clean version of Win7 , I ran ABR without error, so then i wiped a re-installed Win7 and ran ABR restore but it said certain files were missing, so i was rather peeved , so thought by chance would the ABR i made of my Samsung R590 would work and it did and windows was activated :)

EDIT : Just checked the pre-activated key on my Samsung R590 and RV511 are the exact same key.

Every manufacturer gets only one offline activation key for each version of windows.
