ok if im read this right from amd that they are taking memory all ready in your system and creating a ram disk out of it?
they are claiming faster game loads and app loads..
also you do not need to use amd memory to be able to use the program..
what do you think?
here are the links.. and a quote..
AMD Radeon™ RAMDisk Software
Recently, AMD launched the Radeon™ RAMDisk which enables users to load, create and modify faster by using system RAM as a virtual disk drive. Download the freeware and unlock up to 4GB with your existing system memory or purchase a license and unlock up to 64GB. Get more information on how it works and visit the RAMDisk support center for helpful tips and videos.

so far its fast as all heck.. now ill load some thing up on it and report back how well it loads .. any ideas as to what to load on it?

That is an old program that was developed by another company that AMD recently acquired. So, it's not something that AMD developed. It is fast because it is a virtual disk residing in memory rather than real drive space. One thing you can put on it is a Windows swap file. I've never found a RAMDISK to be all that useful in real world situations, but maybe I just have not learned to use it effectively.

If we had 2TB RAM that program would be very useful.

Interesting to see what happens on this one.

WHAT happened to the like button? and also.. that ram disk wouldnt run a thing.. kept blue screening with code 0x19 any time i tried to run a program on it.. or in stall a program to the drive..

It's really not something I ever found any value in having. FancyCache works a lot better at improving system performance. It's a disk cache versus memory cache.

Gosh I remember RAM disks, they were great in the pioneer days. One of the few good uses for memory that exceeded disk space in the original IBM PC's. They were fantastic for "large" dB2 application development.
I have looked at using one again since I just "had" to put 32 gB into this machine. A bit of a waste I know but what the heck I hate empty slots.
Anyway, a RAM disk is blindingly fast but I suspect the benefits will be masked by the time taken to load it up each time. Moving a 15 gB game even at bus speeds takes a little time to load it up. -
Well I use it at work (loading it with 2-3gigs worth of databases to make testing and debugging faster among other things), for gaming, I see little benefit except for games like shogun 2 where load times could take 2-3 minutes on a standard hdd, but at 13 or so gigs, loading it up on a ramdisk/drive would eat up almost all my ram lol.

Personally, I don't like the "Like" link too much. Now that we have it, it's rare to see anyone giving +1 rep any more. I bet some of our newbies don't even know what the 6-pointed star button is for. It might also be a case of laziness for some, since clicking "Like" is a fast and lower effort way to say "thanks" without giving something (rep) in return. -
It was just a sarcasm... The buttons work fine, I just don't think its nice to demand for anything from another. And yes, I somehow believe is a mistake to have the 'like' button. Other links are all forgotten.
I have made few forums for some companies and it is very similar to what notebookreview.com has, except the 'like' button. The 'appreciation' will only come up from the administrators -

I don't know, i've recieved 6 reps this month so far and 3 of those were from new members.
I also agree that ramdisks while seeming a good idea are hard to make a practical use of. -
considering these laptops can go anywhere with 8-32gb of memory the ramdisk itself is very useful. 4gb is enough for swapfile (i've disable mine as im running 16gb and SSD) but with mechanical hdd it shows more benefits.
it is similar to running the msata as a cache drive or seagate momentus XT hybrid drives if you have mechanical disk. try running adobe photoshop and be amaze by the speed. with the size of games on PC and the price of SSD now days not worth creating a ramdisk for games only. IMHO its better used for swap/cache then anything else that requires frequent reads/writes large data -

on some other forums there are "thank" buttons, and on some also counters under avatars with ratio "thanks given/received"..
sorry for off topic
