    Hi,
I found an asis notebook, which was left at a university where I work. I tried to reset it to factory settings, but this did not work and the word "grub" came up. any idea what has happened and what I can type in to get it working again?

Have you attempted to return the computer to its owner?

You "found" a notebook and are trying to factory reset it? So like you want to use it for yourself? Man that's cold :(

GRUB is a bootloader that is installed when someone has put a linux distro on a computer, it can't be easily removed without rewriting the MBR, good guess josea.

Word of warning to you op: if this laptop has grub on it, depending on the distro selections... it has a very good chance of having PREY loaded onto it, and the owner will be able to backtrace it and find you should you turn the computer on. You should probably just return it to the owner instead of trying to factory reset it...

Stealing is against the law and this forum will not aid you in resetting the notebook to keep it. Return it to the owner or the lost and found.
