I will be receiving a new ASUS G750JS, on Friday, it will mainly be used for Gaming, and some notebook activities. The notebook comes standard with Windows 8.1 on a 1TB drive (7200rpm). I am planning to 1. Purchase a 240 SDD and 1TB Hybrid later in the year as a new configuration. 2. I am also planing to downgrade to Windows 8 Pro, as I have the upgrade disc purchased back in 2012. Now. I can not remember, how to do the upgrade, I have a Windows 7 Pro Disc, which is running on my desktop. Can I use that disc as the first step to the upgrade, (installation of older OS). Does it need to be activated?? Then I can upgrade it to Windows 8 Pro. I would like run Windows Pro to run VMs.

I prefer Windows 8 over 8.1, I did not prefer the changes made. I am replace an Alienware 14X R2 that runs Window 8.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

***additional note*** Asus Website only shows drivers for Window 7 64Bit or Window 8.1 64Bit. Would this be an issue??

    yes.

Windows 8 and 8.1 are a bit different, especially the WLAN and Bluetooth Drivers can get very picky and installing the wrong drive might leave your system in a bootless state (talking from experience of a G750JX which I had before)

Most the drivers from the G750JX of Windows 8 should work on the G750JS

Now to downgrade, you need to find a proper untouched ISO of Windows 8, I don't know why did you mention Windows 7 Pro here, that has nothing to do with what you're trying to do!

    Ferris,
Thanks for the post, I was slow getting back to this thread, busy with rebuilding my desktop too and then the work week started again.

At this point, I have actually located a WD 750GB Black and a Seagate 1TB, in my large cache of hardware parts, I removed the original drive (left intact) and installed Windows 7 Pro 64bit. My next step will be to upgrade the system to Windows 8 Pro. I did not have too many issues with drivers, but had to research the "gestures" software as it was not listed under the JS drivers.

I mentioned the Windows 7 Pro as an original OS to upgrade (downgrade from 8.1) to Windows 8 Pro, which of course will be forced via updates to upgrade to Windows 8.1 later.
