heres a dumb question. how exactly do i download this latest driver. i tried downloading catalyst and just the driver. it tells me my drivers are up to date if i use catalyst but my driver version is 8.341 and is dated 1/25/07. if i download just the driver file and hover over it, the little popup says it is version 8.421. i tried updating from gateways website before and the file had the be extracted to the cabs folder. and using the ati installer it is extracted to an ati folder. am i doing something wrong because it wont update?

Your notebook is like mine that the vendor is not in the list of ATI's "I can install generic ATI driver to this machine". In other words, the one from ATI would quietly exit without doing anything.

there is a modder to the installer XML to bypass this, from some site called driverheaven.net or something.

figured out how to update my driver from an article here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927524

i downloaded the .exe file for the driver ONLY from ati. then i ran the exe file and that extracted the files to and ATI folder on my C drive. I located the .inf file by going to "ATI", "support", then find the folder with the same name as .exe file you downloaded. from there i went to packages, drivers, display, and then it was the only .inf file in there. from the link scroll all the way down and follow the instructions once you have the .inf file. fairly easy to do, heres a quick run through. go to device manager, display adaptors, and right click yours. then click properties, driver tab, and update driver. then you go through and say you have the disk and then browse your computer to the .inf file and its simple from there. go through the list and choose your graphics card.

hope the helps someone out there.
