Stick with AVG! McAfee is a resource hog similar to Symantec. If you want a good all around security suite try Zone Alarm or Kaspersky 6.0. Both of these are good alternatives and do not use huge amounts of system resources.

AVG is a good choice and I have it installed but I would not say it is neccessarily better. I think what is better is you being more aware and educated about how viruses are introduced into your system. What I can say is that AVG is sufficient for my needs and for its value which in this case is free.

I don't think AVG is better. It is better on resource use, but McAfee is better at detection and prevention. It's up to you to decide which is more important. If you're comfortable with your networks, go with the free version.

I agree with ttupa. AVG is not good at removing viruses. I had it awhile back and it would find the viruses but would not remove them. I had to get McAfee to get it out of my system.

If you wanna buy commercial AV, I would recommend Kaspersky. It much better than McAfee or Norton/Symantec.
-
the benefit of mcafee was that it was twenty bux at costco lol
thats not bad for av protection, compared to what ive seen -
I think you should go for AVG, it's free and does't use to many resourses from your computer. If you ask who's better for protection I really don't know, maybe if AVG is not as powerful it'll be fine for your needs. I use Avast!, wich is free too, and I'm really fine, never had a priblem with a virus. I totally recomend it.

McAfee offers free services of Virusscan,Firewall Plus, and Privacy Suite to those who are subscribers to Comcast Highspeed Internet.
Since I have Comcast, I take full advantage of it. -

yeah I got that package too but did you notice how many task/mem it required? That thing seriously lags my computer. I even tried contacting mcafee and they pretty much said it's all gotta stay to function properly, especially with their new refresh, v11. At least when I had v10, memory usage was only 100megs -
