My friend ever told me that it is not good for the Windows / OS system if we REGULARLY doing process of install and uninstalling and also copy / create new file and delete it.
Is it true? How is the real process happen?
How to deal with it? Do we must defragment our harddrive regularly? OR WHAT?
Thank you very much.

Well, that's probably true to an extent -- file activity causes fragmentation. However, I frequently commit such horrendous file system indiscretions, and so I just defrag once a month or so. :smile:

It will also affect the registry. I dont see why you would wanna do such a thing over and over to begin with

This is not true with Windows. Large hard drives don't get fragmented that much with limited install/unsinstall or copy/delete activities.

Use CCLeaner to get your hdd free of leftovers and JKDefrag to remove fragmentation...

@other responders:
Don't always latch on to a keyword and only answer that. Just because the OP mentioned "defrag" doesn't mean the answer to the question is "defrag".
@OP:
Yes, installing and uninstalling programs all the time can have a significant effect on your system. Some programs will uninstall clean, while others will not. Some will leave files on your hard drive, other will leave things in the registry. Really bad one will leave behind changes to the system such as different DLLs and installed drivers. Over time, this can all build up and cause problems with the system.
Copying and deleting files does not really cause a problem like this.
Fragmentation is hardly a bad problem, only a minor annoyance.
