    Hello to all.

Im using windows 8 . The problem im having is my automatic updates seems not working. I have checked my automatic update settings they are all working. I have already chosen the option to download and install updates automatically.

But when i turn on my laptop and when i enter my account password i see a small tag in the bottom right hand corner says, Sign in to install automatic updates.

And when soon after i bought this laptop i gave a New account and a password because they didnt let me use that old hotmail account of mine. I dont know why. But now i have sign out from that new account and signed to my old account. Is this the problem with it ????

And sadly i can't remember the user name of that new microsoft account. What can i do to find my new user name and password.

Are you signed into the new windows account or your hotmail account for that user account on the laptop?

"Sign in to install automatic updates"? I have win 7 and have NEVER seen that for windows updates. Usually I get a message that says "You have updates......". That looks like some software on your computer is asking you that. I also have hotmail account and never seen that message. Maybe malware asking for your passwords disguised as innocent message?

I take it you've never used Windows 8 or any of the previews before?

Windows 8 allows people to use a Hotmail (or other Microsoft) account as their PC user account. Naturally, this means that you use your Hotmail credentials to login/authenticate. It's a new feature, probably intended to mimic what Google does with Gmail accounts and Android.

Personally I prefer the old-fashioned approach of having a separate Windows account, but that's just me.

Using a Windows account or a local account under Windows 8 should have no effect on updates. I'll do a quick check for the update settings on my windows 8 install.

EDIT: Well, I was thinking that maybe there was a way tos et updates to automatic in metro as well, but nope, so that's a bust. Try rebooting the computer, maybe all it needs is a reboot, if that doesn't work, try logging in wait for a while and see if the updates installed, maybe the updater needs to be logged in to work, but I would find that strange.

Some failed and some didn't? And did you get an error code as to why some failed?

Also check the update history to see which updates failed. It happened a few times that I had updates that made others useless. The last time this happened was when I forgot to untick a security update for IE9 and at the same time ticking the IE10 update in Windows 7. I remember a few similar cases as well where a more recent update superseded the other and it resulted in a failed update for the one that was no longer relevant.
