I've tried everything referenced by MS documentation. I cannot delete a file that needs to be deleted...any suggestions?
I recently restored my computer, and that restore process saves all my previous files into a "My Backup -- ???" folder. Fine, but the file Flash6.ocx cannot be deleted now. I'm guessing that is because Windows THINKS it needs that file as it is a file with a system name, but I don't want this file sitting around...

Gosh, even if I cut/paste the file somewhere else...I cannot delete the folder it was in either. I can rename it, but not delete it...
-
try to do it in command prompt? i know that phillip had this problem with being unable to delete a file and dos worked for him.
-
Yup...I even tried the MS recommended way to bypass security...
del //./c:/temp/d/d/d/d/Flash6.ocx
(Yes, I renamed all the directories in hopes that it would work...)
It says to try a non-POSIX program if MS methods fail...
-
hrmmm....have you tried to do it in safe mode? don't know if it is viable solution, but maybe the file won't be protected there...
-
Move to a removeable drive (MP3 player or similar) then delete.
-
Yup...but a Linux guru that is visiting here today suggested something that did work!
1) Cut file and folder that cannot be altered into a different directory...
2) Delete
Weird... -
That is pretty cool never heard of that one, well now I know.
-
If that had not worked, I was prepared to copy the file to a USB flash drive, and then format the drive.
-
That's what I would've done.

Thats what anyone with half a brain cell would have done
simple solution is always best
