Hi i am new member to this forum however my knowledge on windows installations is fair enough. Hope to receive the best fee back from you guys .. THANKS! xD
. ok so i have this ACER d150. I was asked to delete the MBR and REBUILD it as it had the typical mbr virus. I've done this by wiping out the data runing Comand Prompt etc...
The hard drive is clean with an active partition ready to go.
I installed Windows XP Home Edition SP2. At first it was not going trough since XP does not support AHCI. However, lets keep in mind that this ACER had an XP Installation runing on AHCI Mode.
I've downloaded all the possible AHCI drivers (sata) and integrated these and many other drivers using nLite. however, this does not work as the SATA HDD was not available.
I've done the installation on IDE mode. It goes trough fine. However the starting up time is more than 56 secs. As you all may know a fresh pc must reboot in less than 56 secs. Also many drivers did not want install. I don't know if it was due to the bad drivers service ACER provides online or just faulty XP installation.
I tried to install the ChipSet drivers. After reboot it will not go into OS unless i used "Last Known Good Config". What this would is remove the drivers i had installed before.
Also when trying to install the SATA , REaltek drivers. Error #253 ( Hardware Not Found) would come up [ these means that the drivers can not find its respective hardware and they feel that the system its self does not meet its min requirements]. Eventhough these are the Genuine Drivers provided by Acer.
As of right now i am installing another fresh copy of XP Home Edition SP3. Hopping to have a better outcome. This is still being installed using IDE Mode. However, if the problem continues with the drivers maybe it will be better to Do a fresh installation in AHCI mode.
WOuld anyone happen to know the correct SATA AHCI Drivers i can mount before the installation.
or probably somewhere were i can download a genuine copy of XP Home Edition that supports AHCI.
As i said before, this laptop's genuineOS is XP Home Edition and it was running with AHCI Mode and not IDE MODE.
Please Help by giving some advice. i really appreciate it. THANKS>> xD
btw. This acer comes in XP or Win7. This Acer had xp running with all drivers runing fine.

As you mentioned XP doesn't support AHCI (or what I like to call real SATA, as IDE mode, set your SATA controller under legacy/compatibility mode).
Making AHCI work on a legacy OS such as OS, is a serious pain.
Depending on the version of Windows XP, you may be forced to use a floppy drive to get the extracted SATA drivers installed. If you have a newer XP, you can do it via a CD.
What you need to do, is press F6 key when Windows XP setup loads at the blue screen. You get a split second where the gray bar at the bottom will say "Press F6 to install additional drivers", or something like that.
Once you do, remove the XP disk, and insert the CD that you made with the extracted SATA controller drivers. Now everything will work. Once you are done, you need to install the SATA drivers IN Windows XP. Now you cross your fingers, and restart the computer. As it might get you to a BSOD, and you'll need to restart the whole process with older drivers. XP is very picky with it's SATA drivers.
If your computer is newer than 2006, I strongly suggest to use a modern OS, such as Windows 7. For a smooth experience of Win7, you need a laptop that has an Aero compatible GPU, such as a Geforce 6000 series and up and equivalent from ATi/AMD, or an ntel X3100 or better. You also need a a dual core CPU, and 2 or more GB of RAM.
What you are experiencing is the problem when using a legacy OS with a modern computer.
