Acer Aspire One 1810TZ
Ordered Factory disks online for $21.00
They sent me a language disk only. The PC doesn't recognize disk.
I've been calling Acer Support for a month now and get the run around,
"They are in process of Making the disk, Call back."
Started w/ Win7 Home premium 64 Bit
Installed Win7 Pro 32 Bit by mistake.
Re-installed "Clean" 64 Bit verson
I already installed and validated That software on an other PC.
Can't reach Microsoft by phone to get their advise
I DON'T NEED or want Pro on this PC, Just Home Premium.
What are my options to by "New" Win7 Home Premium.
Really all I need is the cheapest version of an "upgrade" to Home Premium.
Will it down grade to that from Pro?
Help!

Ok let me get this straight, you have Window s7 Pro 64bit on your machine currently and you want Windows 7 Home Premium, am I correct? What key were you using in all instances of your "transitions"?
If you simply want Windows 7 Home Premium(and it came with the machine), you could just download it(there's a thread here on NBR on the steps to make a DVD) and insert the Windows 7 Home Premium key under your laptop. -
PC came with Home premium and I wanted to install Pro to take advanage of "Virtual PC Mode".
Installed 32 bit (WRONG)- re-installed 64 Bit But the CPU does not support Virtual Mode. So I don't need Pro.
I tried to re-install the Home Premium "Image Disks" that I made before doing this upgrade.
Those disks are not recognized by the PC as it is.
The "Original" Factory OS had an Authintication Number that was Valid for that machine. I do not know what that number is.
If I had access to "That" number I could download the OS and use that number. I have know knowledge of where I can find it.
Right now the system has Win7 Pro and a Validation Number that I have already used on my 1810T. -
Are you sure there's no product key under your laptop(usually on a sticker)? I recall a friend with the 1810t had a Windows sticker with a number on it.
If not, I suppose your initial idea of trying to obtain factory restore discs was the best one.
Hmmm, I admit there aren't many solutions left bar trying to contact Acer and getting a valid license key or buying one yourself. -
There is a clean install Acer Computer thread in the Acer subforum you can download Windows 7 iso but need a key.
Home Premium doesn't support XPMode
You need Professional & above SKU and your Processor being SU7300 has hardware virtualisation. -
Of course, I would be Homer saying, "D'oh!" at every turn.
So here I am - "Operator! Give me the number for 911!"
I tried to put Win7 Pro on 2 PCs and I can't use that Key because I'm using it on my 1810T.
To paraphrase Dorothy, "Toto, I've a feeling we're not in XP any more!"
Silly Me!
-----------------------------------------------------------
OK
Now, I understand that the Product Key for the factory OS, Win7 Home Premium, is on the back of the PC.
All I need is a copy of Home Premium to install and I can use that Key?
I'm searching the Acer forum for a link to a Home Premium download with no luck... so for.
Operator... Operator...
Sorry, but at this point, I have to laugh at myself.
Is THIS what I'm Looking for? -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
LEGAL Windows 7 Download Links (Just like Vista before!!!)
go there, download your disk of choice, install, and enjoy happiness.
but yeah, that thread sounds fine, too.. but if you don't have restore disks, you won't get far, as you'd need to get out the original activation first (for that, you'd need to restore).
though, xp mode should work on your system (but it should not be needed anyways, the main reason microsoft created this was so people can still use ie6 with their crappy intranet pages..)

Thanks Dave
That about 24 hours of D/L time at my rate.
I'll wait 'til I get in the city and Cable
I'm Reading more about D/L large files like these.
I live in the sticks mostly and Tether my cell phone to get online.
The Sprint Smartview Broadband software isn't Vista/Win7 compatible.
The plan I have is a legacy unlimited usage and not available anymore.
If I upgraded it would double my cost and limit me to 5Gb usage.
But it sure is what I need. Lots of info in that thread! Thank you very much!

Actually, you can install Windows 7 Pro on another machine, you just need to de-activate the key from your 1810t. Normally a call to Microsoft solves that pretty easily(I've done it many times at work).
Now that you have a key for Home Premium, just download it from where Dave posted and create an iso and you can use both copies you have(Pro and Home)! -
I'm in the city on Cable Network downloading the files as I type.
It's gonna take 2 hours here compared to 24 hours using my Cell Phone "Broadband".
I might ask for help making the ISO. I haven't read the complete thread and some of what I'm read here on the NBR site makes my head spin.
Goal right now is get these files on my PC, then I'll cross that bridge. -
