Hello and thanks for looking at this post. I have a new Acer Travelmate 7730. The original image was Vista but the notebook came with restore discs to XP which is why I bought it. I installed the XP discs and XP was installed, after performing all updates the touchpad stopped working correctly, tapping on the pad or using the left mouse button performed a “right click” action. Nothing happened when using the right touch pad button. Worked on this issue for a few hours without any success so decided to install XP from a Microsoft CD. Blew out all the partitions, (yes I know first mistake) and installed XP, same touchpad issue with no fix found.
Now I cannot get the notebook to restore from the Acer XP restore CD. I know about the BIOS settings that need to be changed, sometimes the system will “hang” when it asks for the second CD, other times it will say “restore failed”.
Does anyone know if the hard drive can be “prepared” for the restore and if so, how?
I can slave the hard drive into another computer and use disc manager but cannot assign the “C” or “D” drive letters that are used by the boot drive.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All I can tell you is you need a "Post Acer Disk Formatter CD ISO Image", which you use to prepare the harddrive so the recovery CDs will recognize it.

You used to be able to download this 200 mb file of the ACER website, but I'll be damned if I can find it.

Thanks for the info Gerry. Got the image, burned it to a CD but for some reason the Notebook will only boot to it's own restore CD! I have disabled all other devices except the CD in the BIOS Boot Order. Have never had this much trouble before. Wondering if I can run the Acer utility on the HDD while it is slaved to another computer?
