Don't know if this has been posted before, but this is a very good program, for free.

Acronis True Image 8.0 Personal Edition allows you to make clone images of your hard-disks and partition's, and restore the backup image for 100% data recovery when disaster strikes, Acronis True Image 8.0 also features Bootable Rescue Media Builder to prepare bootable rescue media like live CD or floppy-disk which can be used to boot the computer and restore the system in-case the OS is unable to boot.

What's the difference between version 8.0 and 11.0?

It is a much older version, probably without some features that people would really want. They get credit for a free tool, and they get people interested in their products. We get a free backup utility, perhaps with limited functionality or quirks, but it is free and well developed/documented.

    Win-win for all.

Do you know what extra features are available in 11 versus this 8.0?

    Does it work with Vista?

Edit: I just found out that it does NOT support Windows Vista.

I would also like to know the difference between version 8 and 11 and I have a few other questions.

I did a clean install of my computer last week. If I create an image and burn it onto a CD or DVD this will save me the hassle of having to clean install my computer if it ever screws up? Also, will it store information like your windows license and other licenses or will that information have to be re-entered if you restore using acronis?

Tinder, in page that contains your password, there is a link just below to login. CLick the link, and login using the email address you registered with and the password that was on that page.

Once logged in, there will be a link for Registered Products, and it is listed under there.

well considering it's version 8 and they're up to version 11 now it seems likely that vista wouldn't be supported.

32 bit is 32 bit so I would not be surprised if it works anyway.

I used Acronis True Image 8 on an old Win98SE PC, and version 11 on an XP laptop and a Vista laptop. Acronis True Image 8 may work on Vista in Compatibility Mode.

Even if it doesn't, you can still use its backup and restore functions from the Recovery CD. The Recovery CD is based on Linux, but it uses wizards and a GUI so you don't need to know any Linux. Acronis True Image 8 has a command to create/burn a Recovery CD. If you can't get 8 to run on Vista, then just install on XP to created the Recovery CD. You can then use the Recovery CD on any Vista PC.

Yes that's what I do. I never format!

I clean install windows, install drivers and configure my OS. activate it, then take a backup image using True Image! Tada, then i install all my programs.

Once something bad happens, i just restore my image, and reinstall the programs coz maybe there are newer versions

^ I do exactly the same. I can restore an image within 10 minutes. Acronis rocks.

Well, no wonder they gave free serials.
A lot of people use Vista, so it's useless anyway :D

Hardly. The Recovery CD works just fine imaging and restoring Vista, as I explained.

    Hi.

    Anybody tried it with vista64.

I dont want to go thought what happened with the free "system mechanic" that we got a few weeks ago, it deleted all my control panel icons and diabled the system restore, so i had to do a full format and re-install.

    regards

    John.
