Is it possible with Acronis to backup a partition to another one on the same drive, and later restore just that partition alone?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes. But remember that if the drive dies you lose everything. For testing it should be ok.

Or as an emergency source for a restore while traveling and away from your external backup. I carry an image of my C: partition on a third partition of my hard drive and a bootable image restore CD any time I am out of town on business. I've only used it once BUT that was enough to make me realize I needed to continue the practice.

I do the same on my second hard drive.
