You can do it through phone, they kinda have specific numbers for each country....
or have a look at this and this.. (I have no idea if this legal or not, it is supposed to be from a book)

looking at the first link i saw:

"You can display the installation ID by entering slmgr -dti so you can activate Vista offline (without an Internet connection)"

how would this work? so i just type that code above and vista becomes activated?

slmgr -dti is basically to get the info you need (except the phone number) for activating over the phone.

Can't elaborate much on this slmgr -dti, since I never tried doing this....
Just had some bookmarks on me old HDD.. :D

over the phone is the easiest way..........you just talk to a robot punch numbers in, get a 72 digit number thrown back at you which you plug in and your away.

You can also extend the 30-day limit a few times... Google for how to do this.

Save your activation using orevs ABR tool (Activation Backup & Restore). Youll never have to call up or connect to MS again for that notebook. Very handy specially for clean installs.

OK, I'm not seeing what the problem is here. The OP can't activate over the Internet because he's having problems accessing the Internet...yet posts about it, uh, five times in this thread on the Internet. OK, fine. Maybe he's posting from another machine in another location.

But it seems to me the the activation wizard offers an option for telephone activation, and even provides a telephone number for it. And even if the OP has a non-US version that is different, a quick search of MS's site provided a number of international numbers. I'm not understanding the OP's problem here.

well its simple i have vista on my laptop and im having trouble connecting that to my brothers wireless router at the moment im using his computer. and i looked through the UK version of the MS website and i couldnt find the number and i cant check if the activation wizard has the telephone number as i dont have the laptop with me. but if it does then thats great ill check it when i get home. but is it a premium rate number? well im guessing that it is, which would mean it would cost about £1.50 a minute?

@ night kid, thanx for the link. that was quite helpful.

right after cleaning parts of it up and removing some text im left with the follwoing instructions:

    1. Open the Start Menu.
    2. In the white line (Start Search) area, type slui.exe 4 and press Enter.
    3. Select your nearest location and click the Next button.
    4. Click Continue for UAC prompt.
    5. A local phone number should apear with a set of numbers generated by Windows and displayed on your screen under Step 2: .

NOTE There will be sets of numbers under the 1 to 9.

    6. Call the activation phone number selected.
    7. At first, the activation line will be automated, so you will be asked to enter or speak the numbers (Step 2 in screenshot below step 10) displayed on your screen into the phone.
    8. If Automated Service is Successful -

NOTE Usually it is not successful.

    A) The automated service will issue you a set of Confirmation ID numbers.

NOTE Have a pen and paper handy to write these numbers down.

    B) Go to step 10.

    9. If Automated Service is Unsuccessful -
    A) If the activation service informs you that it was unsuccessful and cannot help you with activation,
then STAY ON THE LINE and your call will be transferred to an activation operator who will assist you in activating your copy of Vista.
The operator will give you the set of Confirmation ID numbers if they agree your copy of Vista is legitimate.

NOTE Just explain to the operator your situation and what you did to require activation.
(EX: hardware upgrade, installed Vista on a new computer after uninstalling it from the old one, etc...)

    10. Type in the set of Confirmarion ID numbers given to you into the Step 3: area to be able to activate Vista. (See screenshot below)

NOTE You will get these numbers from the phone automated system or operator after they have confirmed the numbers you gave them in step 7 above.

    11. When you get the Activation was successful window, click Close to finish.

    does this look okay?

Orev's tool is extremely useful for activating OEM licenses, although it's just as useful when activating a retail license.

You said Vista wasn't pre-installed, so that leads me to believe that it's a retail version. If so, there should be some documentation that comes with it that explains how to activate it (internet, phone, etc) and it should have number to call.

A quick Google search yields this: http://www.microsoft.com/uk/licensing/homeuser/activate.mspx
Near the bottom is a telephone number to call. The number seems to be toll-free (as I would expect), but I don't know what toll-free numbers in the UK look like. That info took me <1 min to find using Google. Try it yourself.

Just wait 'till the 30 days lapse then it becomes nag ware. It will show a phone number to activate. After awhile Vista won't even load or loads with minimal function until you do activate.
