I'm having problems with my connection and it's dropping from time to time. Since I'm using a modem with a router in another room, I'd like a program that alerts when when it's actually dropped. Intel Wifi shows a signal to the router, but not id it's actually connected to the 'net.

I've seen a couple free downloads on the 'net but would rather have a recommendation.

    Thanks.

Give cfosspeed a try. It is not free, but it is more than an active internet notifier as it also controls your upload/download speed ratio and is very good for online games while downloading. No lagging while surfing too.

I appreciate that but I don't play online games and I'd prefer FREE if you know of any decent ones.

I've been putting up with a lot of lost connections myself lately and I'm getting real tired of it, too. We have Roadrunner cable internet here. I didn't have any trouble with DSL when I used to have that.

No kidding. It's just been lately and I've been messing with certain programs thinking they were the cause, when all along it was probably my connection but just didn't realize it.

I need to look around, one program I downloaded and thought was free was $30. I wish they'd make it obvious before downloading.

all i do is type this command in run which keeps on communicating with router to ensure basic connectivity.
    run>cmd>
"ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -t " (REPLACE xxx BY YOUR DEFAULT IP GATEWAY)

Oh and my wireless router is in my bedroom so full signal..

The signal to my router seems fine (always excellent quality) and can be green without an internet connection.

I don't know if this is helpful to you, but since I use logmein, I notice that the systray icon of it gets a red "x" before my internet icon thingy. I use that to check if I'm connected to the internet or not.

Thanks Amol, I'll check it out.

My connection is much more steady today. I had been tweaking a few things including my firewall, so of course, I immediately blamed that, but then checked the desktop that's hardwired to the router and noticed the same problem.

Hopefully AT&T did something to correct the problem.

Ah, glad to help. My internet is stupid - if I'm torrenting it takes up all my bandwidth (understandable), but when I exit uTorrent I still don't get my bandwidth back. I've to restart to get it running .

Anyway, back on topic now. =P.

My Singnet (singapore ISP) Wireless Router has inbuilt firewall which bloody caps uTorrent speeds...
I was trying to bypass it but it gives some error.

Will try again..i get 10 kbps on uTorrent..

Amol, which port will be best?

Any number above 10000 and below 65535 should do for port forwarding. I use 56789 :p. I don't have any ports forwarded since I don't have access to the router, but it was working fine until a week ago. I'll make another thread later.

@OP: Sorry for the OT deviation.

McAfee SiteAdvisor gives that site a blazing red. So I don't think I will download that.
