    Active Processes

    Hello. I'm new to the notebook world, having just received my Lat D830 from Dell yesterday. On my PC, using windowsXPhome, i had.. 3 processes running total when no programs were opened. explorer.exe, ctfmon.exe and realsched.exe. Oh this laptop i have an extraodinary amount, even though ive only added two programs to the computer since having received it, ones that dont leave active processes in the background to my knowledge.

    Could someone please inform me what things are useless so i can free up some memory? Its not so much that its necessary as of yet, but it bothers me knowing that things im not using are in there. Thank you.

    I have no idea how you managed to have just 3 processes under XP (in fact I honestly doubt it, no offense: maybe you had 3 applications?). As to the huge number you currently see, search these forums for "bloatware" to find numerous threads talking about what to remove and how. A clean installation of Windows is of course the best course of action...
