    Hey,

I was thinking of adding XP to my Vista/Ubuntu dual boot as several programs are more stable on XP. I had installed most of my programs on a separate partition and was wondering if any that had registry changes in Vista had to be reinstalled in XP or not. And other programs shouldn't have a problem running in XP without being reinstalled, correct? Thanks!

Actually, incorrect. Few programs work with an "extract and run" installation. (Though some, such as Firefox, do.) Applications that require licenses will definitely not work without installtion (for obvious reasons). You would need to install the applications on XP and set the install directories to your separate drive. This might overwrite any settings that are stored in files, though. I'm not sure if it's possible to share programs between operating systems. I've never heard of it being done. I have, however, heard of sharing application data (settings, profiles, etc.) between operating systems.

    Thanks for the reply!

Just to confirm, would steam work in this way? (It'd be a pretty big pain to uninstall and reinstall everything)

To be honest, I do not know. However, I would be utterly floored if it did work. I'd say you're out of luck as far as this particular idea goes. =/
