Sounds like you need a new shell file of some sort.

Wow so in other words its a whole process to do this ? Not as easy and download icons and saving them in a folder to use with existing icons.

Well, are you talking about Computer, Network, Folder, and Recycle Bin icons? Or are you talking about icons for shortcuts? You are probably familiar with the process of setting icons for these things: you specify the shell file or executable that contains the desired icons. I personally use shell files from previous versions of Windows for my icons; for shortcut icons, you can compile new icons with many executables, but that's a bit more complex....

Mind you, I've never really messed with these things, but there are many icon "packages" or shells that allow you to change all of your icons, such as this one: http://www.stardock.com/products/iconpackager/.

    Just Google icon packages.

    Aren't you happy? :)
This is one of the improvements in GUI usability introduced with Vista.
When I had Vista, my old .mod files that were implementation modules for an old imperative language named Modula-2 (and Modula-3, and Oberon...) were shown with a fancy musical note icon that gave them a very professional look. Also they showed up as media file of some sort, even if - thanks Vista for having allowed me that - I was able to open them with an external text editor.

In XP all I have to do it to righ click on the file, choose change icon and then find a folder with the icon I want to use.
Vista does not allow that freedom anymore.

Maybe that was a despicable behavior.

But don't worry: for 39 bucks you could add a new application that can do what a real GUI should be able to do out of the box.
