    Hi folks,

My 8 months old laptop came with Adobe 8 ... in my wisdom I opened up a pdf file and I happen to be online so the darn Adobe Acrobat Reader asked me if I want to update from 8.x to 8.xxx something else .. I said yes and it updated A-OK ...

Then I thought why not update to the latest 9.1.0 version ... Once I did that Adobe without asking me installed "Adobe AIR" and "Adobe.com" and I don't particularly like 9.1.0 look over my old one.

Also I just read somewhere that there might be some problem with Adobe Acrobat Reader Security.

Q1: Does 9.1.0 have the Security Problem fixed!?!?

Q2: What version of Adobe Acrobat Reader is Safest? 7.0, 8.0, 8.1.3, or what?

Q3: Any Recommendation to my delimma?

Q4: Any other FREEWARE PDF Reader that is SAFER than Adobe Acrobat Reader?

    THANKS,

    G!:confused2:

Always the newer versions are better. I just got a 8.1.4 update to my Adobe reader. The newest version 9.0 installs some bloatware like AIR, Acrobat.com, etc with it.

    Hi CoolGuy,

    Thanks for your reply.

I found that the Hard Way about the Bloatware ...

I immediately unistalled the 2 that you mentioned ... and only kept the Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.1.0 ... till I hear from more folks here.

I might uninstall and go back to 8.1.3 ... I amnot TOO crazy about the 9.1.0 buttons ... it has one that connects you tothe web and God knows what else!

BTW, where did you downloaded 8.1.4 from!?!?

    Thanks,

    G! :)

I got the update through the auto updater. You can also click help > check for updates and click details to view the updates and install the specific update.

Q3 & Q4: Just remove Acrobat altogether and install FoxIt Reader. Problems solved! As far as being safer... well, it's hard to know which program is more vulnerable... but Adobe is certainly by far the most widely-used so it is also much more likely to be targeted than other PDF readers.

I find Adobe Reader 9 to be much faster than Adobe Reader 8...

Also: I'm not sure if it installed the bloat for me too or not...
Can't you download it without and/or select that during the installation?

The installer has no option to customize.

Adobe Reader 9.1 is out. You can uninstall Adobe Air and Adobe.com afterwards.

    Hi JohnDoe,

That is what I have installed right now ... 9.1 and have unistalled AIR and Adobe.com.

Q: Has Adobe addressed the Security problem they had with their earlier version then!?!?

    Thanks,

    G! :)
