I noticed Adobe now has a PPAPI version of Adobe Flash Player that is meant for Opera/Chrome

Since Chrome has Flash built in, is there a need or any benefit to installing this?

Dunno about Chrome, but Vivaldi (which uses the Chromium engine) requires the PPAPI version for proper operation (at least in the 64-bit version).

Short answer: nope. By the way, the PPAPI version has been available for over a year for browsers based on chromium.
