I just applied an Adobe Reader update to version 9.4.6 and now any PDF file I open has its Windows Explorer icon display revert to a generic PDF icon. Previously these icons were a thumbnail of the actual file contents. In fact files that have not been opened with the new version of Adobe Reader, retain the icons with a preview of the file content.
Anyone else experiencing this and/or know of a fix.

To clarify, the preview pane in Windows Explorer does still show the file contents. The issue is only with the icon view.

I have only the icons displayed with Adobe Reader X. I do remember seeing the contents of the file.
I don't see the contents in the bottom preview pane too. -

Enclosed is a sample. I now have more insight. If I open a file in Adobe Reader the icon displayed changes to a generic icon (like in the sample). If I close the Windows Explorer window and reopen it the icons all display with the contents again.
Strange...

Are you using 64-bit Windows? There's a known issue with .PDF previews not showing up right in these versions of Windows.
I install this:
Fixes for 64-bit Adobe Reader preview handler and thumbnails
and it solves the problem for me. -

Gary I am running 9.44 and win 7 home 64 bit but have the same issue.
I fixed it after a lot of fiddling by opening acrobat -File - open - change the view to tiles - then opened the file with acrobat, Next I closed the file in acrobat. This created the thumbnail which then appeared in explorer.
Hope this helps, I have seen how many people you have helped, myself included.
Downside, it seems you have to apply the fix to 1 file in each folder that contains a pdf.
I also ran disk cleanup and cleared 24 meg of thumbnails first, not sure if that was necessary.
BTW any reason you are not using Acrobat X? -
The preview of the file contents don't appear for me with 64-bit Windows 7 and Adobe Reader X, but honestly, I don't about the contents shown in the icon (they don't serve any purpose, other than the fanciness).

Well now closing Windows Explorer and ropening it does NOT bring back the icon view of the file content. This is bizare.

List, small and details view I get the generic icons. X large, large, med, tile and to a certain extent content, I get the thumbnail view with Win7 and Acrobat 8 pro.
What do the green check marks mean in your screen shot? -
