I have Microsoft Office 2007 and was wondering what advantage does the format of .DOCX have over .DOC
If there is nothing substantial, I might just switch to .DOC
Thanks in advance,
Leon

.docx have the ability to support Microsoft XML directly and is thus decently usable if you use MS XML in the daily work, and in which case you would probably have known this previously, and there is always the compatibility pack for office 2007 files to office 2003 if that is the problem ( http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...70-3ae9-4aee-8f43-c6bb74cd1466&displaylang=en )

docx files are also way smaller, no big deal on text files but if you have pictures and stuff, it makes a difference.
I remember last year, when I had powerpoints to do, the pptx files was 25kB while the 97-2003 file was doing 2.5MB -
.docx helps you prevent your files from being read and modified by people who are still using Word 2003 and older.

It sucks if you need to do a Geography presentation and the computers they use don't support the new Office 2007 you have at home, so you need to spend all day trying to convert it.

i find office 07 much more user friendly than 03. especially with the live preview as well as the big icons, they shouldve done such in the first place ^^
-
how does it take you all day to convert it?
You can just save it as a Word 97-2003 document. -

But I DID actually notice the files being smaller though

.DocX files also open much much Faster on 2007...obviously thats a Selling point.

well... you CAN tell office 2007 to only use the 2003 format for compatibility. Check under options...
Now you have the looks and speed of 2007 with the "open-anywhere" of 97-2003 -
Hmm... Will stay with .DOCX. I wish that they have an option to save both.

Yeah... I mean, it would take up space, but I have a 160 GB, so I'm not worried.
