Hi, I have a Advent 7090 laptop. I bought it 2nd hand, 6 months ago. I have no back up discs or reinstall software (it's only a back up laptop) but the hard drive has failed. I have a hard drive with XP installed. (Its out of another laptop) but can't get the laptop to recognise the drive. It simply says 'Operating System Not Recognised'. What am I missing. Do I need any extra drivers or Advent only boot menu?? I have a blank hard drive that I bought to install a fresh XP on but can't get the DVD drive to open to install the XP.

The spare hard drive I installed had nothing more than XP on it and is used in my daughters HP 400c without problem.

Any help or direction will be appreciated.

Hi, I have now got a recovery cd but the dvd drive isn't recognised by the motherboard / bios. It shows up in the bios screen but when I boot the laptop up, the recovery cd won't work and the laptop simply says, operating system not found and won't let me type anything on screen. Any ideas??
