Hi All
My netbook has been unstable for a while, memory usage high, random high CPU usage and disc usage going to 100%.
I think i know the culprit and its over 80+ processes of Service Host:___________ (to many to list).
I have found this guide to disable Service Host: SysMain
https://www.techosaurusrex.com/wind...sk-or-high-cpu-usage-heres-how-to-disable-it/
This is the one that uses the most Ram, but there are loads of others near the same.
Do i need to disable them all? I have never noticed them before tbh.....
Anyone advise before i proceed?
I have added a just one pic containing a few of them running.......![]()
Thanks

Hi
Service host processes (aka svchost.exe) are used to run Windows services. Services are DLLs rather than EXEs and svchost.exe is a shell used to run the DLL. There are separate processes for most services for stability reasons.
So all in all about 80 svchosts is pretty normal for Windows 10. You might wanna review the services (Win Key +R and type services.msc) some of them might (and most likely are) useless in your setup but you have to take note of what you disable - some services rely on others and it might cause problems so take note of what you disable. It won't change the situation drastically though.
To sum it up - your problems are most likely not due to so many instances of svchost.exe running. That's how it's supposed to be.
You will have to monitor the situation more closely to figure out what is causing those random spikes - it might be an AV or something else that is running at startup.Papusan, Vasudev and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
Shell hardware detection, SSDP discovery and Quality AV service can be stopped w/o any side-effect. I believe SysMain also contributes to random CPU spikes and so does Win search indexing which can be put to manual or index at once and then stop the service to save some CPU cycles(Beware, new files will not be indexed automatically by Windows 10 anymore after stopping Windows Search ).

StormJumper Notebook Virtuoso
Are those programs default running program or from other installs that is using them? What does it look like if you run Windows in Safe Mode with Networking does it change anything process? That's what you should use to compare process from Safe Mode to Standard Mode. That will tell you what you need and don't need running or what programs needs to be disabled from running.
Advice - Over 80 processes running for - Service Host:xxxxxxxx ?
