Hi. Would like to know whether with my laptop it would be worth upgrading my 32 bit XP OS to a newer 64 bit OS. My laptop has 4GB ram but due to a 945 chipset will never quite recognise all 4GB. Even so would it be a worthwhile upgrade?
Any help appreciated!

Well, personally I would just wait for Win 7 in your case. You stuck with XP this long might as well stick with it a tad longer. It's not due to the chipset, it's due to the 32bit OS btw.
Oh, and this is assuming you're going to be paying for the CDs. If you just happen to have a Vista DVD laying around under your bed or somethingp) then go for it and get yourself Vista 64. But I believe you're going to be wanting to upgrade to Win 7 when it hits the scene, and paying for 2 installs at this point in the game seems overly costly.
As far as performance benefits are concerned, you know to be honest, I bet XP with 3sh GB might be a tad faster than Vista with 4GB. I am not sure but...let's just say it's well within the realm of possibility.
Hope that helps. -

I went with Windows 2000 until Vista. How's that?
Windows 7 is what Vista was shooting for. There's a lot of goodness in Vista, but there have been a lot of teething problems too -- especially on the hardware side. Intel has had its own catching up to do. Don't get us started on that Turbo Memory crap, and all the headaches it causes on some brands.
You can eek along just fine for a bit longer. Matter of fact, you can probably pick up a very cheap used dual-core if you are hardware constrained.
a.k.a.
PS: The only reason you wouldn't be shelling out for two full Windows versions is that 7 is (my guess) going to be an upgrade from Vista x64. If you ran Vista x64, you might spend $150 for Windows 7 instead of $250. -

Thanks for the responses. Having read other threads though I was sure even with a 64 bit OS I would only see somewhere between 3 and 4 gb ram with the chipset in the C90S. It is good news though if I will see a performance increase with 64 bit. My processor is pretty much the highest I can get for my laptop. Not worth getting the e6700.
I haven't bought any 64 bit OS's yet so I will wait and get 7. Had vista 32 bit on purchase of laptop and disliked it so put XP on hehe -
If you do decide to go with Win 7, you could always try the public beta. I've been using it only as my OS for the past 2 1/2 weeks and there have been no real problems.
